Rather attractive young actress Sheila Marcia is caught with drugs, as is her boyfriend whatshisname.

Sheila Marcia Joseph, an actress originally from Malang, born in 1989, who has starred in such classic films as Hantu Jeruk Purut and Kereta Hantu Manggarai, was arrested on August 7th while said to be at a “drugs party” at the Golden Sky apartment building in Pluit, North Jakarta, and found to be in possession of 0.27 grams of shabu-shabu.

Apart from the drugs, police also confiscated a bong and lighters.

Her boyfriend, Roger Danuarta, was also arrested and later tested positive to narcotics in his system. It is not clear whether Sheila has been tested yet, or whether she has admitted to using the drugs.

Her good friend, gospel and pop music singer, the lovely Eka Deli, was quick to visit Sheila in police lock-up, but was only given 15 minutes to give her some spiritual advice and prayer support.

Sultry model and actress Sarah Azhari looks set to avoid prison time after being convicted of assault.

Sarah Azhari, the younger sister of Ayu Azhari, had been convicted of throwing an ashtray at, and stomping on the foot of, a reporter, at SCTV studios in Jakarta on 12th July 2005. For this crime she was sentenced to four months prison on 10th July 2006, a verdict and sentence which was confirmed by a higher court on 17th October.

But, perhaps because she is so pretty and famous, and sexy, she has not been forced to serve her sentence, nor does she seem likely to. Although the sentence simply reads “four months jail” it appears that legal authorities have decided to “interpret” this to mean “four months jail, suspended”. Should she do the unthinkable and commit another crime in the next four months she will then be forced to serve her original time, says official Hazniwarti Nasution, who appears to be making things up as he goes along. Zaskia Adya Mecca, 18, for those who don’t know of her talents, isan Indonesian soap opera, or sinetron, star. Her most acclaimed performance, as these things go, has been in the serial Kiamat Sudah Dekat, (Judgement Day is Near). She has been enlisted by the organisers of an anti-free sex and anti-abortion campaign in the provincial capital of Makassar who hope that she will deliver the message:

Virginity, yes!…, free sex, no!… and abortion, no!

Not a bad message at all to be delivering of course. The campaign is run by the government family welfare agency, a company called “Media Solutions”, and a branch of the state telecoms provider.

Zaskia has been chosen, said Rudi Iman Prasetyo of Media Solutions, because she is a well-behaved girl and a modest dresser thus making her a good role model for young women.

Apiaty Amin Syam of the family welfare body, in explaining the reasons for the campaign, talked of hymens:

Virginity is not just a matter of the hymen, it’s much more than that, it is related to the problem of abortion.

And, if viewed from a socio-cultural and religious perspective, the phenomenon of free sex is not appropriate in a culture that always holds high standards in morality and religion.

AKARTA: TV-soap actress Asmirandah got experience as a big screen actress in her debut movie Liar (Wild), which is directed by Rudy Soedjarwo.

She says in the movie she had the chance to steal some film directing skills from Rudy.

"I take film directing as my major in college. I have used the opportunity of working with Rudy to learn from him," Andah said as quoted by okezone.com news portal during the press screening of Liar at Setiabudi One Theater.

She plays as a feisty female racer named Pepi in the film that also stars Intan Nuraini, Irgi Reza Pahlevi and Raffi Ahmad.

"I'm now making a video for a television advertisement which uses animation. I wrote the story and will direct the video myself," said the actress who is still in her first year at the film and TV broadcasting school The Next Academy. -- JP
